‘No better time for us to beat England than now’ – Jason Holder says West Indies’ win in Australia inspired his return to Test cricket for England series

In an attempt to lead his country to its first series victory in England since 1988, Jason Holder said that the West Indies’ triumph over Australia in January rekindled his passion for Test cricket.

Shamar Joseph took seven wickets to secure the West Indies’ first Test victory in Australia since 1997 and a 1-1 series draw as the team defeated Australia by eight runs in a thrilling match earlier this year in Brisbane.

Holder, the former captain, chose to play in the United Arab Emirates T20 franchise league rather than participate in the tour, but he is back in the team for the matches against England.

Holder stated: “I was so happy for the boys when they did what they did in Australia.” Holder was speaking ahead of Wednesday’s live streamed first Test at Lord’s.

“Returning to the group and being a part of something special again gave me newfound energy.” I am excited about it because I have missed Test cricket.

“It’s critical to build upon Australia.” The guys, I believe, learned a lot from that. Our goal is to prevail in this series.

“We have some unique talent in the locker room; all we need to do is play consistent cricket and have faith in ourselves.”

“Now is the best time for us to defeat England.”
During the West Indies’ most recent trip of England in the summer of 2020, Holder was captain.

The Caribbean team prevailed in the first Test match in Southampton but lost the next two at Emirates Old Trafford. Holder recalls this trip as one when the social isolation enforced by the pandemic made him feel like he was “in prison.”
