As part of their pre-season tour of North America, Wrexham, who have won two promotions in a row for the first time in the team’s history, are playing three games in order to be ready for the next League One campaign.
The Reds drew 1-1 with AFC Bournemouth in Santa Barbara on Saturday to start the tour. They play again tonight in Santa Clara against Premier League heavyweights Chelsea before making their first journey to Canada on Saturday to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.
Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton, and Sebastian Revan—the five summer additions—all made an appearance against the Cherries and will play a part in this evening’s game in California.
Parkinson believes that the tour is the ideal means of integrating new players, and he plans to bring in more new players before the season begins on August 10 at home against Wycombe Wanderers in front of a sellout crowd at The Racecourse.
“Arthur was with us on loan last season and knew us anyway but the new signings have fitted in well with the group,” stated the manager of the Reds.
“There’s no better way to get to know your teammates as a new signing than on a tour like this one.
“The squad is not there yet but hopefully we are getting there.”
Dobson, a midfielder, is excited to play Chelsea after spending the previous three seasons at League One opponent Charlton Athletic.
“This is yet another incredible match,” the 26-year-old commented on the team’s YouTube account.
“Getting to play against these Premier League clubs and see new areas was an amazing experience.
“I am really looking forward to another great test against Chelsea and even more support.”
