REPORT: Three Oregon State Beavers to be aware of as 2024 Oregon football summer opponents

Oregon football fans should be familiar with a few names as the Oregon Ducks prepare to take on the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis. These three Oregon State athletes should be closely monitored.

The forthcoming football game between the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks will be quite exciting because there are a lot of new faces in Corvallis, Oregon. For their third game of the 2024 Oregon football season, the Ducks will travel to Corvallis, and there are a few people that Oregon fans should be cautious of.

Although there are still a few summer months left and a lot will change before the third week of play begins, now is a great opportunity for Oregon football supporters to review what they know about the Beavers.

These three important Oregon State Beavers players are worth keeping an eye on as the Oregon Ducks get ready for the next campaign (as well as their matchup with their in-state rivals):

Quarterback Gevani McCoy is ranked first.
Although there is still a lot of ambiguity around this position and I’m not entirely sure that Gevani McCoy will be the Oregon State Beavers’ starting quarterback in 2024, he brings an intriguing resume to Corvallis and Reser Stadium.

The redshirt junior from Baldwin Hills, California, transferred to the Beavers and brought with him a wealth of experience. At the FCS level, McCoy was a 2023 Walter Payton Award finalist and the 2022 Jerry Rice Award winner for FCS National Freshman of the Year. He completed 65 percent of his passes for 5,834 yards and 43 touchdowns in 26 games as a member of the Vandals.

In the event that he is selected for the starting lineup, the experience will undoubtedly help him and the Beavers in the upcoming campaign. Despite the fact that playing at the FCS level differs greatly from FBS action, Oregon State gained a skilled D-1 quarterback with the transfer of McCoy.

No. 2: Running back Jam Griffin
Jam Griffin has experience playing in multiple conferences. All the way back in 2019, he began his career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. Before transferring to Oregon State in 2022, he played his first three seasons at Georgia Tech.

Griffin has a bit of a breakthrough season in 2022 while playing for the Beavers, rushing for 488 yards and four touchdowns on 86 carries (good for a rather impressive 5.7 yards per carry). After that, Griffin moved to Oxford, where he didn’t have a particularly successful 2023 season with the Ole Miss Rebels.

He’s back in Corvallis now.

The Oregon State football team has undergone significant transition, so Griffin’s background should be very beneficial. Throughout his career, he has faced a variety of opponents and defenses, making him seasoned. Seeing how the Beavers use him this season will be interesting to watch.

Wide receiver Darrius Clemons is ranked third.
The young receiver from Portland, Oregon, might be the best option for the Beavers when it comes to receiving passes. Darrius Clemons, who departed the Michigan Wolverines to play closer to home, brings a great deal of intrigue to Oregon State football fans going into the 2024 season.

Clemons was considered a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was a member of a squad that won a national championship. At six feet three, he’s a rather huge target, so opposing defensive backs may find themselves in a difficult battle.

Naturally, Clemons has a great deal of potential to succeed as his career progresses. Having said that, his college stats show that he hasn’t actually played much yet. Clemons doesn’t exactly have the same level of experience as the other guys mentioned above just yet.

Nevertheless, there are many reasons for Oregon State supporters to be enthusiastic about his potential, and this season is one to watch out for him.
