BATON ROUGE—The 2024 SEC/ACC Challenge will take place in the PMAC on Thursday, December 5th. LSU will host Stanford, as was revealed on the SEC Network on Wednesday.
This is the SEC/ACC Challenge’s second year. Coach Kim Mulkey of LSU became the fastest coach in college basketball history to win 700 games in her career when the team played Virginia Tech last season. A later time will be announced, along with the TV announcement and the game time.
2024 SEC returns to LSU Mikaylah Williams, 2024 First Team Freshman of the Year Every SEC Aneesah Morrow, Second Team (2024) Every SEC Johnson, Flau’Jae, 2024 SEC Every Freshman Del Rosario, Aalyah, 2023 SEC Every Freshman Amani Bartlett, Izzy Besselman, Sa’Myah Smith, and Last-Tear Poa. Smith, who has been away from the floor for the most of the Year of Lafayette Christian Academy Jada Richard.
After Tara VanDerveer retired after the previous season, Stanford will be led by first-year head coach Kate Paye as the Cardinals prepare for their debut season in the ACC. Paye, who spent 17 years at Stanford as an assistant and subsequently associate head coach, was a member of the 1992 national championship team and served as associate head coach for the 2021 squad.
This year, Stanford will have a new look with Paye taking over as head coach and Cameron Brink leaving for the WNBA. Kiki Iriafen was also lost by Stanford via the transfer portal. Three freshmen and two transfers make up the Cardinals’ roster, including Mary Ashey Stevenson, the 2024 Big Ten Media Freshman of the Year fromfrom Purdue, to accompany a cohort of nine repatriates. Talana Lepolo was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention the previous season, and Courtney Ogden and Nunu Agara were named Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention.
