Ballina Town won the McDonnell Cup this afternoon, preventing Bangor Hibs from winning their first trophy since rejoining the Mayo Football League, despite an outstanding start.
The North Mayo men defeated an Erris team who played a great game in the cup final thanks to goals from the brilliant John Durkan (2) and Ryan Moran.
From the beginning to the end, this game was played at a remarkable standard. After 19 minutes, David Conroy gave Bangor Hibs a 1-0 lead after Brian McHale crossed the ball in from the right.

Ballina Town didn’t respond to the barony boys’ challenge until beyond the thirty-minute mark.
After an excellent through-ball from Ryan Moran, Durkan equalized the score with a first-time finish. Then, in the 37th minute, the striker gave them a 2-1 lead with a stunning curler.
After controlling the ball brilliantly in the box and putting it in the net, Moran added a second goal.

The second half was just as intense as the first, with neither team able to break through for a goal.
Ballina Town had done enough to win the trophy, which was raised by club captain Ted Horan at the conclusion of the match, despite missing opportunities to make it a three-goal game.
