The Toronto Blue Jays announced that, following days of looking for the lucky ticket holder, they had located the winner of a $825,000 50/50 jackpot.
The Jays Care Foundation, the city’s baseball team’s philanthropic arm, said on Tuesday that they were unable to identify the buyer of the winning ticket for the game against the Detroit Tigers on July 21. According to Jays Care, the ticket holder’s contact information was not included because the fan purchased the ticket in person at the stadium rather than online.
Jays Care requested that attendees of the game verify their tickets and that the winner come forward immediately because the prize is set to expire ninety days after the draw.
Jays Care revealed that the winner had stepped forward in a Friday update.
“The winner of our most recent, potentially life-changing 50/50 Jackpot has been discovered in-stadium! Congratulations to Mississauga’s Manolito, who will get $825,953! stated Jay Care in a tweet. According to a foundation representative who contacted with CTV News Toronto, Manolito has not yet picked up their check.
A significant 50/50 reward has not gone unclaimed before.
The $2.87 million winning ticket for the Amazing April 50/50 Jackpot went unclaimed for ten days last year until the winner was identified. In that instance, Jays Care additionally declared that it was searching for the fortunate supporter who bought their ticket directly from the Rogers Centre.
