As Barca defeated Lyon in the final of last week to win an incredible quadruple and win a third Women’s Champions League trophy, Bonmati sparkled. Her semi-final match against Chelsea saw her score a critical equalizer as well. Given her achievements, it is highly possible that she will win her second Ballon d’Or later this year.
It should come as no surprise that Barca wants to extend the midfielder’s contract, which is scheduled to end in the summer of 2025. Though Mundo Deportivo understands Chelsea is the team most interested in luring her away from Catalunya, it will also not come as a surprise to hear that there is interest from other teams.
WHAT WAS SAID IN THE REPORT
The report claims that Chelsea would be prepared to fulfill Bonmati’s contract’s €3 million (£2.55 million/$3.26 million) release clause in exchange for a four-year deal worth about €2 million (£1.7 million/$2.17 million) per season. Three English teams are interested in signing the midfielder, however Bonmati’s top priority is Barcelona, according to Esport3 in Catalunya. Chelsea was also interested in signing her the previous season.
WERE YOU AWARENESS?
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca is already in the process of presenting Bonmati with a compelling offer of their own, and because the last extension was signed in December 2022, the terms of her current contract will undoubtedly get better. Since then, Bonmati’s reputation has significantly increased thanks to a World Cup victory and a Ballon d’Or victory.
UP NEXT FOR BARCELONA AND BONMATI?
With two league games left for Barca following this week’s international break, the domestic season is drawing to an end. However, Bonmati’s attention will soon shift to the Olympics, where she will undoubtedly play a significant role for Spain as they look to add a gold medal to their World Cup victory from last year.
