NEWS REPORT: Former world No. 1 suggests Rafael Nadal’s appearance at the Laver Cup might signal the end of his career

Rafael Nadal’s career appears to be coming to an end, as Andy Roddick hinted that the Laver Cup would be his last match in the world of professional tennis.

After declaring last year that the 2024 tennis season would probably be his last as a professional, Rafael Nadal has made a number of contradictory remarks regarding his retirement. For example, following his first-round loss at the French Open, he declined to say that it was his final appearance at Roland Garros.

The 38-year-old said he would play in the US Open after losing to Novak Djokovic in the second round of the Paris Olympics. However, he revealed on Wednesday that he “decided not to compete” at Flushing Meadows, saying “I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time.”

He also affirmed in the announcement that the Laver Cup in Berlin will be his “next event.”

After then, Roddick’s itinerary is unknown, and he believes that the yearly team tournament in Germany, which takes place from September 20–22, may be the 22-time Grand Slam winner’s final match.

“The Laver Cup could be a celebration,” the American stated on the Served With Andy Roddick podcast. When he is here, we’re all better. I hope he makes it back to the major finals. I’m not sure. This seems like it might be the end.

“I’m not at all like the best players that have ever played.” I’m not sure if he wants to compete for titles in Bastad, but I’m trying to figure it out. I’m not sure if that’s his lane. We’ll see.

“I find it difficult to think that he’ll make the effort and attempt to give Roland Garros another chance, but we don’t know what he’ll do and we’re not in his inner circle. However, I’ve been mistaken about him in the past, and any opinion an analyst has is really conjecture.
