George Parros, senior vice president of player safety for the National Hockey League, said on Wednesday that a former captain of the Ducks has joined the department.
Ryan is the newest employee in our department, and we couldn’t be happier,” Parros remarked. “His on-ice achievements speak for themselves: he was a highly competent and determined player who excelled at every level and was well-liked by all for his leadership qualities. He experienced many of the changes to our game from his rookie season in 2005 and his most recent retirement, which will provide our group a great and distinct perspective going ahead.
Getzlaf played his whole career with the Ducks, where he was selected by Anaheim in the first round (19th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft. He set team records for career seasons (17), games (1,157), assists (737), and points (1,019), among many other categories. He was the Ducks’ captain for the most seasons (12, 2010–22), and he also helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2006–07.
He is one of only 12 players in League history to have captained the same team for ten years and collected 1,000 points. He retired after the 2021–22 season, having finished as Anaheim’s all-time top scorer in both the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
