Packers practice notes and news, 8/7: Three players are added by Green Bay…Read More…

There’s a new kicker in town as the Packers go through their fifth player at the position this offseason.

The Green Bay Packers made a flurry of transactions before their Wednesday practice, the final practice open head of their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns this weekend. Out are cornerback Don Callis and Rory Starkey, who presumably received injury settlements with the team. In are defensive ends Brevin Allen, Zach Morton and kicker Alex Hale.

Allen and Morton were likely added to replace the snaps that Deslin Alexandre and Keshawn Banks are missing due to their injuries at the position. Hale adds on to Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph in the kicker room, which had its worst day of camp on Tuesday in what head coach Matt LaFleur called “tornado” conditions.

The churn continues. It won’t stop here.

On the field, here’s what you missed from Packers practice today:

Participation

LaFleur said in his pre-practice press conference that rookie first-round pick Jordan Morgan is dealing with a shoulder injury that should keep him out “a week or so.” Assume that Morgan and right tackle Zach Tom aren’t going to play against the Browns, even though starting quarterback Jordan Love is going to suit up for the game. Hopefully, the backups on the right side of the line can keep Love upright and healthy in the limited snaps that the franchise quarterback will be playing in the preseason game.

The head coach also mentioned being “smart” with linebacker Quay Walker after he dropped out of practice yesterday. Walker returned to the field today, but it doesn’t seem like the team is going to push Walker to play the preseason game.

Defensive end Kinglsey Enagbare returned from a hamstring injury on Wednesday, which is a good sign for a unit that was losing bodies left and right. The only new injury, aside from Morgan, was to receiver Jayden Reed, who is officially out with a calf injury.

The players who remain out of practice are cornerback Carrington Valentine (hamstring), Alexandre (leg), Banks (groin), linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (hip) and offensive lineman Donovan Jennings (knee).
