As the transfer deadline approaches, West Bromwich Albion may face the possibility of losing a key player to one of their Championship rivals. Portsmouth and Luton Town are both reportedly eyeing a move for West Brom winger Jed Wallace before the window closes on Friday.

Portsmouth, recently promoted from League One, and Luton Town, relegated from the Premier League, are keen to bolster their attacking options with experienced players. Wallace, who has just returned to action at The Hawthorns following a short injury layoff, is said to be a top target for both clubs.

According to a report from the reliable West Brom Xtra, Portsmouth and Luton are “heavily interested” in securing Wallace’s services. There’s even a possibility of a nostalgic return for Wallace, who began his career at Fratton Park with Portsmouth.

Currently, Wallace has just under two years remaining on his contract with West Brom. This duration means the club is under no immediate pressure to sell. However, a substantial offer could be hard to resist, particularly as it would help balance the books in line with EFL profit and sustainability regulations.

With a market value of £2.5 million according to Transfermarkt, Wallace represents a potential free transfer for either Portsmouth or Luton. Additionally, West Brom is preparing for Wallace’s potential departure with the imminent arrival of Celtic winger Mikey Johnston in a £3 million deal, suggesting that a replacement is already lined up.

As the deadline draws near, all eyes will be on whether Portsmouth or Luton can secure Wallace’s signature and what impact this might have on both West Brom’s squad and their financial standing.
