REPORT: Birmingham City Wants to Get Chris Davies and the Versatile Star Back Together

Jamie Donley of Tottenham Hotspur has been linked to Birmingham City, bringing the forward back to St Andrew’s to play with Chris Davies.

The forward has shown his versatility in preseason, as they have been training in Asia with him playing left-back instead of center-forward. Donley is a forward that Birmingham City appears to have targeted; City manager Chris Davies would be familiar with the player from his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite impressive displays in Spurs’ pre-season campaign, it does not appear to be enough to break out into the first team with the Premier League outfit as a number of clubs in the Championship and League One are keen to offer the 19-year-old a chance on loan this season.

Birmingham City to prepare a move for Donley.

The Blues are one club mentioned in Tom Barclay’s report that Donley is wanted by most clubs in the Championship and League One. Barclay details the club’s interest in swooping for the Tottenham forward as ambitious, with clubs in the Championship also interested.

In June, newly promoted Championship side Oxford United were linked with a move for Donley, as it was claimed the club were leading the race for the centre-forward. However, since then, the teenager has seen a change in his position, featuring as a left-back, which could be why reports linking a move for him to Oxford appear to have cooled.

Could Birmingham City secure the signing of Tottenham Hotspur forward?

It is reasonable to consider that the move for Donley is certainly ambitious, as labelled by Barclay, with so many Championship clubs said to be keen. However, it is important to note that the side have been assembling what could be considered a high-quality side, beating Championship clubs to the signings of players such as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Marc Leonard, as well as adding the likes of last season’s top scorer in League One, Alfie May.

Not just that, but with a budget of £20 million behind them in this summer’s transfer window, it is clear they are taking no chances to secure an immediate return to the second tier following their relegation. A budget like that could aid in building a side to compete in the Championship, and Chris Davies could also be hoping his time with Spurs as Ange Postecoglou’s number two could prove beneficial in his position to bring players on loan to the club.
