SAD: Cowboys cornerback have season-ending knee surgery…

The Dallas Cowboys have ruled out All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs for Sunday’s road game against the Carolina Panthers, with various publications reporting Saturday that he is scheduled to undergo season-ending knee surgery.

Diggs, 26, was deemed questionable for the game after returning to action last Monday in a 27-20 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He had missed the previous two games due to groin and knee concerns in an injury-plagued season.

He has started all 11 games this season, recording 42 tackles, two interceptions, and 11 passes defensed.

Diggs tore the ACL in his left knee during a workout prior to Week 3 last season and appeared in only two games.

The Cowboys selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Alabama. He has 215 tackles, one sack, 63 passes defensed, and 20 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, in 58 regular-season games (57 starts).

Diggs led the league with 11 interceptions for 142 yards in 2021, when he made his first of two Pro Bowl appearances and was named first-team All-Pro.

Dallas also placed linebacker DeMarvion Overshown on injured reserve after tearing numerous ligaments in his right knee in the fourth quarter of their loss to the Bengals. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Tuesday that Overshown will need season-ending surgery.

The Cowboys (5-8) promoted cornerback Andrew Booth and center Dakoda Shepley from the practice squad to the active roster for their game against Carolina (3-10).
