A sell-out crowd of 67,000 witnessed Tottenham’s first preseason loss as they were defeated 2-1 by Bayern Munich in Seoul.

Son Heung-min Spurs, without Harry Kane, were outplayed by the Bundesliga heavyweights despite the contributions of James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall, and summer acquisition Archie Gray.

After Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made a poor pass, Gabriel Vidovic took advantage of it to give Bayern an early lead. Leon Goretzka doubled their lead after the break.

Spurs failed to equalize with Bayern, who also handed former Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha a second-half runout, despite Pedro Porro’s 25-yard shot cutting the deficit.

The team led by Ange Postecoglou will play again against Bayern on Saturday, August 10, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 17:30 BST.

In another encounter, Newcastle’s trip of Japan ended in a 2-0 loss to Yokohama F Marinos.

Lloyd Kelly made his Newcastle debut, but goals from Brazilian winger Elber and midfielder Jun Amano were enough for the J League team in Tokyo.
