Luton boss Rob Edwards has stated that striker Joe Taylor can be a real ‘asset’ for the Hatters after he remained at Kenilworth Road following the transfer window closing on Friday evening.
The 21-year-old was one of the main players that had been heavily rumoured to move away from the club over the summer, with speculation mounting right up until the deadline passed that a loan move to League One Huddersfield Town was on the cards. Although Edwards revealed a deal might have gone ahead for the player who scored double figures for both Colchester United and Lincoln City last term, with Town unable to bring a replacement in themselves, it meant that Taylor stayed put.
He almost made the most of the decision instantly during Friday night’s 2-1 defeat against QPR, as thrown on for the final 15 minutes, his third outing of the campaign, the forward came closest to a stoppage time equaliser when nodding over the bar from close range. Although he will face a battle for his place in the squad once Jacob Brown returns to full fitness, on keeping him at the club, Edwards said: “We wanted to get the right thing for Joe and maybe if something had come off we would have looked at the right thing for Joe because we want him playing.
