Update on Lee Buchanan’s injury: Christoph Klarer is expected to make his Birmingham City debut

Lee Buchanan, a defender for Birmingham City, is scheduled to resume training the following week, and Christoph Klarer, the team’s newest addition, is expected to start against Rangers.

After missing the preseason trip to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, Chris Davies anticipates that Lee Buchanan will return to training in the next few days. Buchanan is a defender for Birmingham City. Buchanan was absent all weekend after withdrawing from Wednesday night’s friendly against Solihull Moors.

Blues were nearly at full strength against Salop but for Buchanan’s absence; manager Davies confirmed that it was nothing more sinister than a knock that has prevented him from training. Blues gave Alex Cochrane his first start, and he impressed for an hour or so before Davies made wholesale changes.

Nevertheless, Buchanan is anticipated to rejoin his teammates in their pre-season preparations at some point next week, ahead of the final friendly against Walsall and West Bromwich Albion. Rangers on Wednesday may come too soon, depending on when exactly he returns to training.

“He’s had a niggle, he’s had a couple of these little niggles in the first few weeks,” said Davies. “Unfortunate, really, but nothing major – I think within a few days he’ll be back training again.”

In addition, Davies stated that Christoph Klarer, a new addition who arrived on Saturday morning from Darmstadt, will play against Rangers. Former Southampton academy product Klarer has also been at Fortuna Dusseldorf and leads the record of most expensive League One signings ever, together with fellow newcomer Willum Willumsson.
