Manager Terry Francona offered a hopeful update on two key arms for the Cincinnati Reds ahead of their series finale against the Los Angeles Angels, signaling progress for both Nick Lodolo and Caleb Ferguson.

According to Francona, Lodolo is trending in the right direction and is set to throw a bullpen session. If everything goes smoothly, the next step could be a live batting practice later in the week, putting him closer to a return.

Ferguson, who has been sidelined with a mild oblique strain since spring training, is also making steady progress. The left-hander recently completed a side session and continues to build toward his season debut, expressing optimism about taking a careful approach to ensure long-term health.

The Reds have managed well early on thanks to strong performances from both their rotation and bullpen, but getting Lodolo and Ferguson back would provide a significant boost in depth and overall pitching strength.

Francona also highlighted a bright spot on the field, praising Sal Stewart for his performance at second base. Making his first start at the position this season, Stewart impressed with his play, showing valuable versatility that allows the Reds to rotate players and keep the lineup flexible.

With key players nearing returns and young contributors stepping up, Cincinnati continues to build momentum as the season unfolds.
